Creating art can be therapeutic for people dealing with issues including depression, anxiety, or PTSD. My featured work is about transformation. I challenged myself to learn how to make animated paintings and in doing so, addressed my own fears and anxieties, including fear of the unknown, perfectionism, and impostor syndrome.
MEDIUM | PROCESS: The featured work was made with unpigmented encaustic medium and pan pastels. Encaustic medium is a mixture of beeswax and damar resin. Solid at room temperature, it is heated to liquid and painted in layers. Each layer is fused to the one before it using a heat gun. As the layers are melted again, the colors from the pan pastels meld with the wax and swirl together, sometimes transforming what was painted.
